ukuleletuner.co is a free online ukulele tuner, with reference tones and a printable chord chart. It is published by Takreparation Skåne AB in Ängelholm, Sweden.

How the tuner works

When you press Start tuner, the browser gives the page the sound from your microphone, with echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic volume switched off so the string sounds as it is. About 4,000 samples at a time are analysed with the YIN pitch detection method, refined between samples, and the median of the last few readings drives the needle. Quiet input is ignored.

Everything happens in your browser. The audio is never recorded or sent.

How we tested it

Before launch, the pitch code was tested with generated test tones at every ukulele string frequency in this site’s tunings, pure and with overtones and some noise, at the two common sample rates. Every test tone was found within 2 cents of its true frequency. The tuner was also tested in Chrome with simulated microphone input. Every chord shape on the chart was checked by calculating its notes.
